USF Cross Country Set To Compete In SF State Invite Saturday

The USF men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the San Francisco St Invitational this week in Golden Gate Park starting at Lindley Meadow. The women's 6k start is at 8:15 am, followed by the men's 8k race at 9:00 am.

Leading the women will be junior Michelle Born, senior Fallon Heffernan, sophomores Mary Verran and Alice Hobbs, along with freshman Nicole Bowler. Born and Heffernan finished second and third for the Dons last weekend at the Griak Invitational in Minnesota. Last year in the San Francisco State Invitational Verran finished fifth overall helping lead the Dons to a second place finish. The women will be without seniors Jennifer Hartford and Lucy Miller who ran first and fourth for Dons in Minnesota, along with senior Zita Mezei who finished eighth in the Stanford 4k.

The men will be led by seniors Cheyne Inman and Kenny Sparks, junior Jordan Zwick, sophomore Byron Williams and freshman Ravi Amarawansa. Last season Sparks finished 17th overall in the S.F State Invite. The Dons will be without junior Alex Nelson who finished sixth last week in the Stanford 4k.

Competing against the Dons will be SF State, Chico State, Humboldt St, Cal-State Monterey Bay, California-Berkeley, St. Mary's, UC Davis, University of the Pacific, William Jessup, Sonoma St., and Holy Names.
