Men's Cross Country Teams Move Up in Regional Poll

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- #3 BYU and #5 Portland both captured titles last week, while Gonzaga and San Francisco impressed with strong finishes at top-tier meets.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • Six teams saw action at the Stanford Invitational (9/29) with San Francisco (fourth place), and Rajpaul Pannu from Saint Mary's (12th place individually) leading the way for the WCC. Loyola Marymount also turned in a solid, seventh place finish in the 29 team race. Other competing WCC schools included Santa Clara (10th), Saint Mary's (12th), San Diego (23rd), and Pepperdine (27th).

  • #3 BYU and Gonzaga traveled to Springfield, Ore. to take part in the Bill Dellinger Invitational (9/29). BYU took home the team win in dominating style with all five scoring runners placing in the top-10 individually. Gonzaga placed fifth overall with four runners finishing in the top-30 individually.

  • #5 Portland also competed in the state of Oregon, but at the Charles Bowles Invitational (9/29) in Salem. The Pilots captured the team title, placing five runners in the top-6 with Pilot runner Lars Erik Malde winning the individual title. Even more impressive, Portland's winning margin over the second place team was 95 points.

  • In other action, Gonzaga finished second at the Erik Anderson Invitational (9/22), while Loyola Marymount finished sixth at the Mustang Challenge (9/22).

  • The WCC continues to be move up in the USTFCCCA national / regional rankings with four teams making an appearance in Week Four.

  • Other action included Loyola Marymount earning a third place finish at the Mustang Challenge (9/22), while a young Gonzaga squad finished sixth at the Erik Anderson Invitational (9/22).
