Loyola Marymount's Danielle Shanahan Named WCC Women's Cross Country Player of the Month - September

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference has named its Women's Cross Country Player of the Month for September.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PLAYER OF THE MONTH - DANIELLE SHANAHAN, SO. - LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
Sophomore Danielle Shanahan, the reigning WCC Freshman of the Year is off to a hot start to the 2014 campaign with three top-5 finishes in her first three meets. Shanahan began the fall with a runner-up, 18:06.4 5k finish at the Mark Covert Classic (Aug. 30). Her second place individual finish, on the heels of teammate Grace Graham-Zamudio, helped lead the Lions to their fourth consecutive Mark Covert Classic team title. 

Two weeks later (Sept. 13) at the WCC Preview Meet in Santa Clara, Shanahan was the overall individual champion on the 6k course in 20:50.9. Her first-place finish led the Lions to the team title as well. In her final meet of September, Shanahan took fourth overall at the prestigious Stanford Invitational, crossing the finish line in 21:02. The Lions would place fourth as a team behind Stanford, UC Davis and Cal Poly.
