LA CROSSE, Wisc. - Portland junior All-American John Moore (pictured) won the Jim Drews Invitational in La Crosse, Wisc. on Saturday morning, crossing the tape with a time of 24:09 in the eight kilometer race. The No. 8 Pilots placed second in the meet with five runners in the top 15 and 41 overall points, finishing behind top-ranked Wisconsin's 37 points. No. 12 Minnesota checked in at third place with 78 points.
Moore, named the September runner of the month by the West Coast Conference, bested a field of over 500 runners from 31 schools to earn the individual title. He finished two seconds ahead of Chris Rombough of Minnesota and 11 seconds ahead of Christian Wagner of Wisconsin.
Senior Chuck McKenzie was the next Pilot harrier to finish the race, clocking in with a time of 24:31 and finishing sixth. McKenzie was followed by junior Michael Kilburg (8th, 24:42), sophomore Justin Houck (12th, 24: 51), senior Matt Sheeks (14th, 24:54), sophomore Colin Longmuir (18th, 24:59) and sophomore Mike Quackenbush (30th, 25:20).
Next up for the Pilots are the West Coast Conference Championships on Oct. 28 and the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 11.
