LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After turning in a fantastic performance at last week's Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, Loyola Marymount cross country returns to action this Friday at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. The event, which is the final invite before the West Coast Conference Championship, begins at 4:30 p.m. with the women's race, followed by the start of the men's race at 5:05 p.m.
The women's squad finished eighth out of 16 teams at last week's invite, highlighted by junior Laura Mickelson's third individual title of the season. Mickelson won the Women's 5k title by matching a course record with her time of 17:03. Freshman Tara Erdmann also turned in an outstanding showing, completing the run in 17:38 to set a new record for a freshman runner.
The men finished second of 17 squads at last weekend's event, including topping WCC foes Santa Clara (seventh), San Francisco (ninth), and Saint Mary's (16th). All five of the scoring runners finished in the top-35, including junior Trevor Wiseman, who paced the pack of Lions with a time of 25:09 to place seventh. Junior Lino Almeida also finished in the top-15, placing 14th in 25:19.
The Cal State Fullerton Invitational features a women's field including 24th-ranked UC Santa Barbara, and regionally ranked UC Riverside (seventh), UC Irvine (eighth), USC (12th), Cal State Fullerton (13th) and West Coast Conference member Pepperdine.
The men's side includes regionally ranked UC Santa Barbara (10th), UC Riverside (11th), Long Beach State (14th) and WCC foe Pepperdine.
Following the Titan Invite, LMU will enter the championship portion of the season, including the WCC Championship, NCAA Regionals, and NCAA Nationals starting on October 27 with the WCC Championship in Belmont, Calif.
