USF women ranked for first time in school history, LMU's Tara Erdmann places fourth at NCAA Pre-Nationals
After putting together an impressive sixth-place finish at the NCAA Pre-Nationals, the University of San Francisco women are ranked 26th nationally. The #15 University of Portland men's cross country team turned in a fourth-place finish in the 8K "White Race" at the 2010 NCAA Pre-Nationals meet, while the Portland women finished 20th in the 6K "Blue Race."

  • Junior Chris Boyle set the pace in winning the men's race and senior captain Laura Volcheff led a strong women's contingent as Gonzaga University's cross country teams got their final tune-ups prior to the WCC Championships at the Inland Northwest Challenge.

  • Boyle covered the 8K Eastern Washington University layout in 24:35.6 for a nine-second victory over Nicol Scott of the University of Calgary. Freshman Willie Milan finished 10th overall by running the course in 18:52.9, solidifying a roster spot for the WCC Championships.

  • Volcheff finished sixth in the women's 5K in 18:31.2 to help the women to a second-place finish. The Bulldogs finished with 63 points. Redshirt freshman Emily Thomas finished 10th overall for the women and crossed the finish line 18:52.9.

  • The Bulldogs will spend the next two weeks preparing for the WCC Championships in Belmont, CA on October 30th.

  • Loyola Marymount competed in the NCAA Pre-Nationals for the first time in school history, representing one of three WCC teams in Terra Haute, IN. Junior Tara Erdmann finished fourth overall, crossing the finish line in 20:27 in the 6K race. Sophomore Sheree Shea finished 35th overall with a time of 20:54.

  • The women placed 25th overall out of 38 teams. Junior Brieanna Delaney came in third for the Lions, placing 167th overall in 22:17. Freshmen Alyssa Bellia and Michelle Hickerson rounded out the top scoring five for the women running 22:37 and 22:44, respectively.

  • The men were led by freshman Weston Strum who placed 113th overall in 25:10 for the 8K course. As a freshman, Strum has led the Lions for the last two races and been in their top five all season. The men placed 32nd overall.

  • The Lions will have a weekend off from racing at the WCC Championships on October 30th.

  • Junior Lauren Lodge won Santa Clara's Bronco 5K Invitational with a personal best time of 16:50.4. Senior Chelsea Wishard also posted a solid performance with her third-place mark of 16:57.8. Both she and Lodge have finished among the top five runners at all three invitationals this season.

  • Finishing behind Lodge and Wishard were juniors Hannah DeWalt (18:08.5) and Aneasha Lawrence (18:34.0).

  • Senior Seth Allison led the Pepperdine's men's team with an 8K time of 26:02.0. The men finished 18th overall as a team.

  • The Waves will next race at the WCC Championships in Belmont, CA on Saturday, October 30th.

  • The #15 University of Portland men's cross country team turned in a fourth-place finish in the 8K "White Race" at the 2010 NCAA Pre-National meet in Terre Haute, IN. Sophomore Trevor Dunbar finished in a time of 23:35.8, which was good for team best and fourth overall.

  • The Pilots had a team score of 146. Five Pilots finished in the top 100 with Dunbar and Junior Alfred Kipchumba placing in the top 10 overall.

  • The Portland women turned in a 20th place finish in the 6K "Blue Race" at the Pre-National meet. Redshirt senior Dana Morgan finished in a time of 21:35, which was good for a team best and 87th overall.

  • Portland's next race will be on October 23rd at the Beaver Classic in Corvallis, OR, hosted by Oregon State University. Races begin at 9:45 AM.

  • The Saint Mary's men and women both competed at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara on Saturday morning at the Baylands Regional Course. The women placed 13th in the 5K, while the men placed 17th in the 8K.

  • On the men's side, junior Robb Van Wyck shattered his personal best by over 30 seconds, eclipsing the 25-minute barrier for the first time and clocking the second fastest time in school history and fastest ever for a junior, finishing 45th overall with a time of 24:57.2.

  • The women had an overall team time of 18:19 to beat the previous school record by roughly 40 seconds per runner. Senior Tess Descher tied the school record for a 5K race with her 17:42 performance, finishing 23rd overall.

  • Saint Mary's returns to action in two weeks at the WCC Championships at the Crystal Springs Course in Belmont, CA on October 30th.

  • The Toreros were one of five WCC teams to race at the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, CA. The women finished 12th overall, while the men were 15th.

  • The Toreros' 8K Race was highlighted by sophomore Chris Flaherty, who smashed his personal best with a time of 25:06. Flaherty was followed by junior Willie Schefer, who crossed the finish line at 25:36.

  • The women were led by sophomore Kristy Koenes, who beat her personal best with a time of 17:37, a USD school record. Following Koenes were freshmen Gillian Gorelik with a time of 17:58, a freshmen school record, and sophomore Emerald Raney who ran 18:22.

  • The Toreros will be in action this Friday, October 22nd as they compete in the Titan Invite in Fullerton, CA, the final tune-up before the WCC Championships on Saturday, October 30th.

  • The #26 University of San Francisco women put together an impressive sixth-place finish at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday morning in Terre Haute, IN. Sophomore Eva Krchova led USF with a 39th-place finish in 21:05.8, while freshman Jana Stolting was close behind in 21:10.9 for a 42nd-place finish.

  • Senior Nicole Bowler crossed the line in 21:30.4 for 64th, while sophomore Chloe Treleven and freshman Maor Tiyouri finished back-to-back in 21:42.6 and 21:42.9.

  • Freshman Jose Madera finished 11th in the Bronco Invitational 8K race in Sunnyvale, CA with a time of 24:17.3, breaking the school record he set two weeks ago at the Stanford Invitational by 13 seconds. The Dons finished fourth out of 19 teams.

  • The men's and women's team will both be back in action on Saturday, October 30th for the WCC Championships in Belmont, CA.

  • Santa Clara hosted the Bronco Invitational on Saturday in Sunnyvale, CA. The men finished ninth in the 8K, while the women finished eighth in the 5K.

  • Defending WCC Champion senior Stephanie Wilson was seventh overall, finishing in 17:22.2 in her first race of the season. Two freshmen were second and third for the Broncos: Erin Hicks was 18th at 17:36.1 and Allie Sibole was third at 18:04.3.

  • The men finished ninth with a score 257 points overall. Sophomore Kevin Oliver led the Bronco charge by finishing 28th at 24:41.6. Freshman Ben Demaree was the second finisher for the Broncos, crossing the finish line in 24:44.4, good for 34th place.

  • Santa Clara will run at the WCC Championships in Belmont, CA on Saturday, October 30th.
