Three Women's Cross Country Teams Record Victories Ahead of WCC Championships

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Gonzaga, Portland, and San Francisco all captured titles in their final weeks leading up to the WCC Championships.

WCC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY QUICK HITS

  • The 2012 WCC Cross Country Championships are Saturday, October 27 at Fernhill Park in Portland, Ore. Entering the championships, four WCC teams continue to appear in the USTFCCCA Regional Polls: BYU - 4th (Mountain), San Francisco - 7th (West), Portland - 8th (West), and Gonzaga - 13th (West). San Francisco is also receiving votes in the national poll.

  • Santa Clara hosted the Bronco Invitational (10/13), with three other WCC schools attending. San Francisco led the way, recording a team victory behind Sarah Person's individual win, in the Open run. Host Santa Clara took home ninth place, while Saint Mary's and San Diego finished in 12th and 16th places, respectively.

  • BYU and San Francisco traveled to the prestigious Wisconsin Adidas Invitational (10/12). San Francisco finished in 20th place, while BYU earned a 24th place finish.

  • Loyola Marymount's final tune-up of the season came at the Chile Pepper Invitational (10/13). The Lions brought home a fifth place finish, paced by Sheree Shea's seventh place individual finish.

  • Gonzaga and Portland also saw strong conclusions to their regular season, as Gonzaga claimed victory at the Inland Northwest Classic (10/13), and Portland captured the Warner Pacific Open (10/13) title.

  • Pepperdine competed at the Northridge Invitational (10/13), finishing in fifth place, as well as the Titan Invitational (10/19), where they finished 11th. San Diego also saw action at the Titan Invitational, gathering an eighth place finish.
