The University of San Diego women's Cross Country teams will travel on Friday to Belmont, California to participate in the 2006 WCC cross country Championship this upcoming weekend. The West Coast Conference has sponsored the championship since 1975. The University of Portland women have traditionally been the team to win the championship.
The Torero women will be headed by Mariana Monasi and Ashlen Nimmo which will be taking their 7th and 10th fastest 6km all time in USD cross country history to conference. Other runners participating are:Sophomores Riley Porter, Julie Shultz, Sarah Coxhead and Seniors:Christie Osborne, and Kristen Jackson.
"It is a championship race that the runners do not forget," head coach Will Guarino said. "It is solely a conference race, which means that less than 60 runners will participate. It is a race and you want to run and feed off a pack of runners."
The course really resembles that of a roller coaster. There are plenty of hills and turns which make it one of the most exciting courses in the West Coast.
The women will be running a new 6km distance for the first time in WCC championship history at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday morning.
