Women's Cross Country Teams Prepare for NCAA Regional Meets

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The NCAA Mountain and West Regionals take place on Friday in Fort Collins, Colo. and Seattle, Wash. with all nine WCC teams competing between the two sites.

WCC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY QUICK HITS

  • Entering this week's NCAA Regional meets, four WCC teams continue to appear in the USTFCCCA Regional Polls: San Francisco - 5th (West), BYU - 6th (Mountain), Portland - 7th (West), and Gonzaga - 15th (West). San Francisco is also ranked in the national poll, at No. 26.

  • San Francisco (25) led the way at the WCC Championships (10/27) in Portland, Ore., registering its fourth straight Conference title. The Dons were led by junior Eva Krchova, who claimed the individual crown, as well as WCC Player of the Year honors, while all five scoring runner placed in the top-10 individually.

  • Host Portland (53) finished second overall in the team race, led by top-10 finishes by freshman Laura Hottenrott-Freitag and sophomore Tansey Lystad.

  • BYU (85) came in next in third place, led by freshman Natalie Shields' fourth place overall finish. The Cougars placed all five scoring runners in the top-22 individually.

  • Gonzaga (105), Loyola Marymount (110) and Santa Clara (187) crossed the line in fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively. The Bulldogs were led by senior Lindsey Drake's ninth place finish, while Sheree Shea's third place finish led the Lions. San Diego (203), Saint Mary's (246) and Pepperdine (269) finished in seventh, eighth, and ninth places, respectively.

  • Santa Clara competed at the Doc Adams Invitational (11/3) in its final tune up prior to the NCAA West Regional, finishing in fourth place.
