WCC Cross Country Teams Travel to NCAA West Regionals

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Seven men's and six women's WCC cross country teams will compete at the 2009 NCAA West Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Oregon on Saturday. The race will take place on Springfield Country Club with the men starting off at 9:45 AM and the women following at 10:45 AM.

2009 WCC Champion Portland will represent the conference at the men's regional race, accompanied by Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Saint Mary's, San Diego, San Francisco, and Santa Clara. Gonzaga's Chris Boyle and Brett Withers will compete as individuals.

On the women's side, 2009 WCC Champion San Francisco will be joined by conference rivals Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Portland, San Diego, and Santa Clara. Saint Mary's Rosie Smith will run in the individual race.

The top two teams in each race will earn automatic berths to the NCAA Championships, scheduled to take place in Terre Haute, Ind. on November 23rd. Individual and at-large bids will also be at stake.

In addition to the WCC teams, the men's race will include top-ranked Stanford, No. 3 Oregon, No. 7 Portland, No. 13 Arizona State, and No. 17 Washington. The women's race will feature top-ranked Washington, No. 5 Oregon, No. 14 Stanford, No. 16 Arizona State, No. 24 Arizona, and No. 27 California.
