Two WCC Teams; Four Individuals Set to Compete in 2014 NCAA Cross Country Cahmpionships

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -
Two teams and four individuals will represent the West Coast Conference in the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday, November 22. Indiana State will host the championships at the Wabash Calley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. The women's 6K race starts at 9:00 a.m. PT and the men's 10k will start at approximately 10 a.m.

In the women's 6k race, the WCC will have the conference individual champion Tansey Lystad (Portland), as well as two addition top-five conference championship finishers - Andrea Harrison (BYU) and Carrie Jube (BYU) - running as individual selections.

In the men's 10k race, conference champions No. 7 Portland and No. 15 BYU will compete in the NCAA Championship as teams. Also, Jose Madera (USF) will run in the men's 10k as an individual selection.

WCC PARTICIPANTING TEAMS
Portland Men's Team - Ranked No. 7 in the country, the 2014 West Coast Conference Champions were an automatic qualifying team for the NCAA Championship. In the WCC Championship, Portland was led by three seniors, David Perry, Scott Fauble, and Reid Buchanon, who all placed in the top five, helping the Pilots bring home the title. This will be the University of Portland's 17th appearance in the NCAA Championship. Their best finish occurred in last year's championship with the Pilots placing seventh overall.

BYU Men's Team - The Cougars were selected as an at-large team to compete in this year's NCAA Championship after having three individuals place in the top 25 and overall finishing third in the Mountain Region Cross Country Championship on November 14. Ranked No. 15 in the country, BYU will participate in the NCAA Championship for the school's 31st time. Last year, the Cougars placed in the top-five, finishing fourth overall with a total score of 267.
