USF Baseball Defeats Rikkio University 3-2 in Exhibition Game

(San Bruno, CA) - San Francisco defeated Rikkio University 3-2 in an exhibition game at Skyline College on Thursday afternoon. The Dons were out hit by Rikkio 8-5.

USF scored in the first when junior Joey Railey walked, stole second and third, and scored when sophomore Zach Kim stole second.

Rikkio answered back in the top of the second, when designated hitter Teppei Hutaba homered to left.

The tie would be short lived after junior Brian Chavez walked and scored off senior Lucas DeLong's double to left.

Both teams put up zeros until the sixth. In the top of the frame, Rikkio's third baseman Daiki Hayase homered to tie up the game. In the bottom of the inning, junior Alex Massari singled, followed by a single by junior Mitchell Bialosky. Freshman Derek Poppert walked to load the bases with two outs. Junior Luke Sommer struck out swinging, but reached first base on a passed ball and Massari scored.

Six batters were hit in the game, three on each team.

Freshman Chase Tigert (who is red-shirting this year) started for the Dons and earned the win, throwing six innings and allowing two runs off six hits and striking out seven. Junior Brian Anderson earned the save.

Rikkio's LHP Hikaru Kikuchi earned the loss in relief, throwing 3.0 innings and allowing one run off three hits and striking out three.

USF heads to UC Riverside for a three-game series beginning Friday at 2:00 PM.
