SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The 25th-ranked University of San Diego baseball team (7-7) lost the first game of a three-game series to No. 30 Cal Poly (11-5), 4-0, Friday evening in a non-conference game at Baggett Stadium.
The Mustangs did most of their scorinig damage in the sixth inning as they scored three runs on three hits. Cal Poly scored their runs on a two-run double by Matt Canepa and a Grant Desme run-scoring double to left center to put the game at its final of 4-0.
Josh Butler (3-2) was saddled with the loss for USD allowing fours runs, three earned, on six hits in 5.2 innings of work. Gary Daley (3-2) picked up the win for the Mustangs allowing no runs on three hits in eight innings of work.
The Toreros will look to snap their six-game losing streak with a 1 p.m. non-conference game against Cal Poly on Saturday at Baggett Stadium.
