Toreros Five-Game Win Streak Snapped by No. 2 Rice

HOUSTON, Tex. - The University of San Diego Baseball team (12-9) saw its five-game win streak come to an end with an 11-2 loss to No. 2 Rice University (6-5) Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at Reckling Field.

After the Owls scored one run in the first inning, the Toreros were able to knot the score at one run apiece in the second inning. Keoni Ruth led off with a stand-up double to right field. After Shane Buschini popped out to the shortstop, Ryan Lilly hit a single to center field. The RU centerfielder committed an error which allowed Ruth to score and advanced Lilly to second.

The Toreros then took the lead in the third inning when Justin Snyder hit a solo home run to right field giving USD their only lead of the game.

Rice would go on to score 10 unanswered runs to claim the non-conference victory.

Offensively for the Toreros, four batters recorded multiple hits with Lilly, Ruth and Jordan Abruzzo all going 2-for-4 and Daniel Magness went 2-for-3.

Freshman Josh Romanski (0-4) was saddled with the loss for the Toreros allowing four runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings of work. Bobby Bramhall (1-0) picks up the win for the Owls allowing no runs on three hits in 3.2 innings of work.

The Toreros will look to return to their winning ways on Wednesday as they remain in the Houston area to play a single non-conference game against Texas Southern University at 5 p.m. (PST).
