(Corvallis, OR) - USF could not get on track offensively and dropped an 11-1 non-conference decision to No. 5 Oregon State Friday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The Dons (9-10) managed just three hits on the day, while the defending national champion Beavers (18-3), connected for 14 in winning their seventh consecutive game.
Junior outfielder Luke Sommer enjoyed the lone offensive highlight of the day for USF with a solo home run in the second on a 2-for-4 day. Junior infielder Brian Chavez collected the Dons third hit of the game.
Junior right-hander Mike Stutes (5-0) tossed a gem for the Beavers, allowing one run off three hits in 8.0 innings and matched a career-high with 11 strikeouts. USF junior Aaron Poreda (3-2) suffered the loss for the Dons, allowing nine runs (eight earned) off 11 hits in 5.2 innings.
San Francisco takes on Oregon State Saturday in game two. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
