FRESNO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University Bulldogs (14-10) ended the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic on a high note as they blasted Binghamton University, 12-1, in a game called after seven innings due to a predetermined 10-run rule. Gonzaga ends the tournament 3-3 while Binghamton dropped to 2-5-1 on the season.
Gonzaga opened with four runs in the first as Aaron McGuinness drew a bases loaded walk. Zach Woodward drove home two more runs with a two-run single. The Bulldogs added a single run in the second as Jackson Brennan opened with a triple and scored on a ground out by Scott Campbell.
The Bulldogs added five more in the third to put the game away as Darin Holcomb cleared the bases with a three run double. McGuinness added an RBI double in the fourth and Gonzaga ended the day with 15 hits. Woodward was 3-for-4 and Holcomb 2-for-5.
Clayton Mortensen was sharp on the mound allowing only one hit in five innings of work to improve to 4-4. Brandon Harmon and Cory Powell each tossed one inning in relief. Binghamton scored an unearned run in the seventh.
Scott Diamond was tagged with the loss falling to 2-1.
