Riverside, Calif. - Double-digit hits and a good start from left-hander Daniel Macias were not enough for the Lions Sunday. In game two of the series and the first game of a doubleheader, LMU baseball dropped the 3-1 decision to UC Riverside.
The Lions out-hit the Highlanders 10-7, but it was UCR that pushed three across home plate.
The game had been a 0-0 pitchers' dual until the bottom of the fourth, when UCR took a 1-0 lead. The Highlanders added two in the bottom of the sixth.
Macias (2-6) worked a career-long 7.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs on six hits. Senior Kyle Mura entered in relief and threw a scoreless eighth inning.
UCR starter Haley Winter improved to 2-2 after throwing 7.1 innings. Dan Runzler earned his first save after throwing the final 1.2 innings and preserving the Highlander lead.
Brian Steinmeyer and Aaron Wible each went 2-for-3 for UCR.
Johnson extended his team-best hitting streak to 12 games after a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Brian Wilson went 2-for-3.
The two teams will conclude the three-game seriesutes after the conclusion of game one. While Gametracker is not available for Sunday's games, fans can follow all of the action via the live audio broadcast on Lions' All-Access at www.LMULions.com.
