Los Angeles, CA- Saint Mary's senior Corey Madden tossed his first career complete game to lead the Gaels to a 5-2 victory over the Lions Saturday afternoon from Page Stadium. Seniors Delaney Gallagher and Mike Harris both went deep as SMC takes the WCC series from LMU. With the win, Saint Mary's improves to 16-14 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Madden (4-1) went the distance, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking one. After allowing one run in the bottom of the first, SMC countered with two runs in the top half of the second.
Harris belted his first home run on the season, driving in freshman Joel Staples on the two out blast. Staples reached on a single through the left side.
After LMU would knot the score at two with a run in the bottom of the fourth, SMC would amass three runs in the sixth to grab the victory.
Gallagher put the game away for the Gaels with a three-run shot over the left field wall. Seniors Sam Carter and Preston Young came in on the prodigious blast. Carter started the inning with a single to left field and Young was hit by a Beal pitch.
Gallagher and Harris led the Gaels from the plate. Gallagher finished the day 1-for-3 with a game high three RBIs. Harris chipped in a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs and a run scored.
Andy Beal (2-6) was tagged with loss after throwing 8 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and five earned with six strikeouts.
The road series victory marks a first for the Gaels this season and it couldn't have come at a more timely moment as the Gaels jump to a quick 3-2 WCC mark. LMU took a WCC series from No. 19-ranked Pepperdine last weekend.
Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount will conclude the three-game set tomorrow in Los Angeles. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. from Page Stadium.
