Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup against UC Davis by the score of 5-1 Tuesday afternoon from Louis Guisto Field. The Aggies banged out 15 hits to only three by the Gaels. After the day, SMC falls to 16-20-1 on the season.
All three hits for Saint Mary's came off the bat of senior Eric Cattoni. The outfielder also tallied the lone run for SMC.
Cattoni led off the game with a double down the right field line and then promptly stole third. Junior J.P. Musgrove hit a sacrifice fly to hand the Gaels an early 1-0 advantage.
That is all Saint Mary's would muster as UC Davis responded with three in the second, one in the third and another in the fifth to secure the victory.
UCD starter Bryan Evans recorded his second victory on the season. Evans allowed all three hits while striking out six. The Aggies bullpen pitched four innings of perfect relief.
Cattoni paced the Gaels with all three hits. The senior smacked his seventh double on the year and stole two bases. Cattoni is now two runs scored away from moving into 10th all-time in runs scored in a season. The Lethbridge, Alberta native now has 41 career stolen bases to remain in sixth all-time.
Daniel Descalso led the Aggies with four hits and a RBI. Jacob Jeffries tallied three hits, including a home run with a RBI.
Saint Mary's will jump back into West Coast Conference play this weekend in Spokane, WA. The three-game set will start on Friday, April 20 at 6 p.m. from the new Washington Trust Field.
