Pepperdine Defeats UC Santa Barbara 8-1 Tuesday Afternoon

Malibu, Calif. - Sophomore right hander Jason Dominguez allowed one hit over four innings while the Pepperdine offense collected 12 hits and took advantage of five UC Santa Barbara errors to help the Waves register an 8-1 victory over the Gauchos in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

The win was the fourth in a row for Pepperdine (25-15), which moved a season-high 10 games over .500 as it heads into an important West Coast Conference (WCC) series against first-place San Diego beginning Friday at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

The Gauchos fell to 15-18.

Pepperdine scored twice in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead against UC Santa Barbara right hander Brian Tracy (1-6).

Sophomore right fielder Donald Brown walked to begin the inning and advanced to third on a hit-and-run single by sophomore shortstop Danny Worth. Junior left fielder Luke Salas followed with a bunt single to score Brown, and on the play, Worth reached third and Salas went to second on an error by Gauchos second baseman Alden Carrithers.

Freshman Chase d'Arnaud, who extended his hitting streak to nine games, brought home the second run of the inning a sacrifice fly to left field.

Pepperdine increased its lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Brown and broke the game open with a five-run seventh inning as it took advantage of two UC Santa Barbara errors.

Sophomore center fielder Adrian Ortiz, junior catcher Chad Tracy, Salas and d'Arnaud each had two hits apiece to lead Pepperdine.

In four innings of work, Dominguez (3-1) surrendered one hit, walked two and struck out two to earn the victory.
