Sacramento, CA- The Saint Mary's baseball team got back on track with a 7-6 victory over Sacramento State Wednesday afternoon from Hornet Field. Behind the arm of Anthony Aliotti and the bat of Eric Cattoni the Gaels end their slide. With the win, SMC improves to 17-23-1 overall.

After giving up a run in each of the first two innings, Aliotti settled down and let the Gaels bats heat. SMC erupted for seven runs in the next four innings, including a four-spot in the sixth to take a 7-2 lead.

Cattoni got the Gaels going in the third with a two-out bunt single. On a timely hit and run Kenny Fuglerud moved Cattoni to third on a single through the right side. Cattoni then scored on an Aliotti single to right field.

Cattoni would be heard from again in a loud way. The senior belted a three-run shot to dead-center to plate three of the four Saint Mary's runs in the sixth.

The Gaels out-hit the Hornets 12-9. Sacramento State made it interesting after pulling to within one, scoring one run in the seventh and three in the eighth to make the score 7-6.

Freshman closer Taylor Stanton came in and slammed the door to secure the one-run victory. The save is the fourth on the season for the right-hander.

Aliotti earned the victory to improve to 5-4 on the season. The newcomer fanned six and was tagged for one earned on five hits in six innings.

Cattoni led the Gaels at the plate with two hits, two runs and three RBI. Ian Gordon belted a RBI double while J.P. Musgrove scored twice. Junior Gilbert Urbina rapped out two hits and tallied a RBI. Aliotti helped his cause with a pair of knocks and a RBI.

Saint Mary's will look to make some noise in conference play against Portland this weekend. First pitch is scheduled Friday, April 27 at 3 p.m. from Louis Guisto Field.
