SAN DIEGO - Dustin Colclough hit a three run homer with two outs in the top of the ninth that helped lift the Gonzaga Bulldogs (28-21, 9-10 WCC) to a come-from-behind win over the University of San Diego (30-22, 11-8 WCC) on Friday afternoon. GU scored six runs in the top of the ninth to win 7-5.
Shawn Wayt started the rally with a lead-off single, his second hit of the game. Gonzaga would load the bases against Toreros closer Josh Romanski as walked Zach Woodward and hit Jackson Brennan with a pitch to load the bases. Two runs would score on a Scott Campbell single to center that pulled GU to within 5-3.
Brennan would score on a ground out by Darin Holcomb that would leave Campbell standing on third base with two outs. Following an intentional walk to Bobby Carlson, Colclough hit his three run shot off relief pitcher Matt Couch (6-3). to seal the win for Gonzaga.
San Diego struck first in the contest with two runs in the bottom of the first against GU starter Patrick Donovan. Justin Snyder and Steve Singleton each scored unearned runs on errors in the Bulldogs outfield. Donovan would cruise on the mound until the sixth.
In the sixth USD added three more runs against the Spokane native. Logan Gelbrich drove home the first Toreros run of the inning while Ryan Lilly plated the other two runs with a double. Donovan would work through the seventh. CJ McClure would pitch one inning and pick up the win in relief improving to 3-0. Brandon Harmon tossed one perfect inning for his third save.
Wayt and Campbell each had two hits for Gonzaga as Campbell chases the WCC batting crown. Singleton had three hits to lead USD.
