Pepperdine 9, San Francisco 4 - Postgame Quotes & Notes

May 28, 2006

Pepperdine Head Coach Steve Rodriguez

On the announcement that Pepperdine will host an NCAA Regional next week: "We knew about it before the game started. I knew we were putting in a bid and we found out at about 12:45, so we knew it was a good sign for us. The biggest thing was to come out and play well today because we can host a regional and still not be a No. 1 seed. This solidifies us as a No. 1 seed and we can rest assured tomorrow."

On USF's chances of earning an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament: "I think they have a good chance. They are a real good team, and I hope they are selected. If they do get in, they have a very good chance. They have some pitchers that can excel in a regional, and they have some depth in their pitching staff."

San Francisco Head Coach Nino Giarratano

On the game: "I give a lot of credit to Pepperdine. They were able to do something here in our ballpark that no one has been able to do recently, and that is to win back-to-back games after losing game one of the series. They put the ball in play today and got some breaks. We battled back and played hard, and were in a position to make it a good game. We made it tough on ourselves by getting behind in all three games in the series. We had a chance to take the lead early in the game and we made some mistakes. From then on it was no looking back, but we continued to battle. You have to give the credit to Pepperdine, they've been doing this for a long time and they're very much deserving."

On USF's chances of earning an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament: "Any time you play for the conference championship, it shows that you've done some special things during the season to get there. I think we're very much deserving, but it's going to be a restless night for me. These kids have played their hearts out and are one of the top 64 teams in the country, if not one of the top-25."
