Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's baseball team will return to the diamond on Tuesday, January 30 and face Patten University from nearby Oakland. The Gaels were slated to face Fresno Pacific but a scheduling conflict changed the opponent. First pitch is still slated for 2 p.m. from Louis Guisto Field.
Who's Hot: Saint Mary's freshman Anthony Alliotti began his collegiate career on the right foot. The De La Salle product leads the team after the weekend with a .556 average. Alliotti batted 3-for-4 in his collegiate debut with a run scored. The Pittsburg, CA native followed that up with another multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 performance. Alliotti added a run scored and a RBI in that contest.
Last Time Out: The Gaels opened the 2007 campaign dropping a three-game set to the visiting University of Nevada. SMC took the season opener on Friday by the score of 5-4. The Gaels then fell in the remaining two games by the score of 6-5 and 6-1.
New Look Gaels: Saint Mary's showcased 17 newcomers in the opening series against Nevada. Seven Gaels tallied their first Division I plate appearance with Brian Hawkins scoring the eventual winning run as a pinch-runner. Nine pitchers toed the rubber for their first appearance in a Gaels uniform, including Taylor Stanton who tallied his first collegiate save.
Versus Patten: Saint Mary's faced Patten University of nearby Oakland twice last season. The Gaels recorded victories in both games of the doubleheader with scores of 7-1 and 11-1.
Next Series: Saint Mary's will play a home-away-home series with San Jose State. The Gaels will open the weekend against the Spartans on Friday, February 2 at 2 p.m. from Louis Guisto Field. The Gaels will then head over to Municipal Stadium on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game to then return home on Sunday to wrap up the series at 1 p.m.
