LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU baseball will hold its annual Alumni Game on Saturday, February 16 in conjunction with the LMU Family Weekend festivities that are planned for the weekend of February 15-17, it was announced on Monday. In addition, due to new NCAA rules pertaining to the start of the season, the Alumni will not scrimmage the current Lions as is customary. Instead, the day's events will feature two exhibition games - an intersquad between the 2008 Lions that will start at 10 a.m., followed by a game featuring two Alumni teams that is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
The LMU baseball program encourages past players, coaches and managers to participate in the afternoon's activities. The Lions would love to see as many of its former players back at the ballpark to honor its alumni, so please spread the word to former teammates about this year's Alumni Game. Registration for the Alumni Game is being handled by assistant coach Shane Schumaker. To RSVP for the 2008 Alumni Game, e-mail Schumaker at Shane.Schumaker@lmu.edu (phone: 310-338-7768). It is very important for all participants to RSVP by Feb. 11 to confirm that they will be at Page Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 16.
After the 2008 Lions intersquad to kick-off the day's festivities at 10 a.m., the alumni will take to the field for the first time in a batting practice session that is scheduled to commence at 1 p.m. The one-hour batting practice session will be followed shortly by the Alumni vs. Alumni game at 2:30 pm. At the conclusion of the game, LMU baseball will hold a barbeque that offers the opportunity to recognize last year's team while introducing the 2008 Lion squad. The barbecue provides an excellent opportunity for alumni to mingle with each other, reminisce about prior years, reflect on the success of the LMU program and meet the current players who are following in their footsteps.
The Alumni Game is just one of many exciting events occurring over the course of the LMU Family Weekend. The baseball team is in the process of unveiling a brand new storage and all-purpose facility located down the right field line at Page Stadium. The building should be completed and open to view by February 16.
After spending the day at Page Stadium celebrating current and former Lion baseball traditions, LMU invites everyone to head over to Gersten Pavilion to watch the LMU men's basketball team take on current No. 21-ranked Saint Mary's at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the event will likely sell-out, so it is encouraged to purchase tickets for the game in advance. To purchase tickets, please call 310-338-LION.
Once again, to RSVP for the 2008 Alumni Game, e-mail Schumaker at Shane.Schumaker@lmu.edu (phone: 310-338-7768). The LMU baseball program looks forward to seeing many of its former players at the field on February 16.
