Kauppila, Frazier honored with season's first baseball awards

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has named its Rawlings Pitcher and Player of the Week for February 20, 2012.

SCOTT FRAZIER, SO., RHP, PEPPERDINE

In his season debut, Pepperdine sophomore right-hander Scott Frazier threw seven shutout innings on Saturday to lead the Waves to an impressive 10-0 victory over No. 14 Oklahoma. Frazier kept the Sooners off the board, scattering five hits with six strikeouts and just one walk.

KRIS KAUPPILA, SR., SS, PORTLAND

Kauppila helped the Pilots open the season with two wins over Stephen F. Austin at the Lamar Classic in Beaumont, Texas, by going 5-for-9 (.556) at the plate with four RBI's, a double, a homer and six runs scored. He also swiped one base and was flawless in the field. During UP's season-opening 11-0 win over the Lumberjacks on Friday, Kauppila had three hits, three RBI's, three runs, a double and a stolen base. He led off Sunday's 10-5 win with a solo home run. He'd add another hit and a walk, while scoring three times.
