SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego's sophomore left-hander, Brian Matusz has been named the National Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Baseball. This marks the second time this season that Matusz has taken home this honor.
Matusz was once again dominate on the mound for the Toreros in Friday's 2-0 series opening win over Wake Forest University. Matusz threw a 1-hit shutout in seven complete innings of work. He also posted 10 strikeouts to move his season total up to 54, the nation's best according to BoydsWorld.com. Matusz has posted three consecutive games of double-digit strikeouts and in his five outings the season, he has posted four double-digit strikeouts. Matusz is 3-0 on the season with a 1.71 ERA.
Matusz and the 18th-ranked Toreros will return to action on Tuesday as they head to the Inland Empire to take on the UC Riverside Highlanders in a 5 p.m. game at the Riverside Sports Complex.
