Feb. 26, 2007

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego Baseball team has moved up two spots in the latest Baseball America top-25 poll to No. 16, while holding steady at No. 21 in the latest Collegiate Baseball top-30. The Toreros also make their season debut in the Rivals.com top-25 poll at No. 24.

San Diego posted a 2-1 record against Wake Forest University this past week. In Friday's game, The Toreros received another masterful performance from Collegiate Baseball's National Pitcher of the Week and the WCC Pitcher of the Week Brian Matusz, as he allowed just one hit in 7.0 innings of work, while striking out 10 batters to move his season strikeout total to 54. In Saturday's game, the Toreros overcame a two-run deficit in the ninth inning to claim a 5-4 come-from-behind win. Freshman Kevin Muno recorded his first collegiate hit, the game winner in the bottom of the ninth to lift USD to victory. On Sunday, the Demon Deacons avoided the sweep by recording a 5-3 win as they scored two runs in the ninth to capture the victory. Josh Romanski had a solid outing on the mound for USD as he allowed three runs on five hits, while striking out seven in 6.0 innings of work.

The 16th-ranked Toreros will return to action on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. game in Riverside against the 20th-ranked UC Riverside Highlanders.
