Baseball Snags Pair Of WCC Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University sophomore third baseman Darin Holcomb and senior outfielder Jackson Brennan both picked up West Coast Conference honors announced by the conference office on Monday morning. Holcomb was named the WCC Player of the Week after Gonzaga went 3-1 at the Banana Belt Classic. Brennan was named the WCC Player of the Month for February after helping the Bulldogs open the month with their first national ranking since the 1981 season.

Holcomb helped the Bulldogs post a 3-1 record for the weekend hitting .313 for the weekend. He drove in 11 RBI for the weekend having a school record setting day on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs blasted Chicago State. Holcomb had 10 RBI, hitting three home runs with two grand slams against CSU pitching.

Gonzaga's Jackson Brennan earned WCC Player of the Month honors for February after getting the season off to an outstanding start. Brennan led the Zags to a 7-6 mark on the month, and helped the program to its first national ranking since 1981 when Gonzaga checked in at No. 29 in the Collegiate Baseball poll on February 13. The senior batted .396 on the month, going 21-for-53, starting all 13 games in the outfield for the Zags. Brennan also posted outstanding power numbers, pacing the conference with five home runs and driving in a team-high 14 RBI, while notching an .811 slugging percentage. The Castle Rock, CO native also clubbed three doubles and a pair of triples on the month, and swiped a team-best two bases. Brennan was also flawless in the field, posting a 1.000 fielding percentage.

Gonzaga hosts Chicago State University for its home opening series this Friday and Saturday afternoon at Avista Stadium. Friday's game is a 2 p.m. start followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday
