WCC/Rawlings Player of the Week
Eric Thames, Pepperdine

Eric Thames enjoyed a monster week at the plate, leading Pepperdine to a 5-1 record including a four-game sweep of Columbia. Thames batted .450 (9-for-20) through six games, slugging four home runs and collecting 13 RBI. The senior also legged out a pair of triples, and scored seven runs for the Waves. A native of San Jose, CA, Thames blasted a three-run homer in a win over USC on Tuesday, and slugged three more in the series sweep of Columbia.

WCC/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week
Brian Matusz, San Diego

Brian Matusz tossed a gem as San Diego notched a 7-2 victory over then-No. 20 ranked Oklahoma State on Friday. The junior dealt eight strong innings, surrendering just four hits and one unearned run, while striking out 12 batters to fall just one short of his career-high. It marked the second straight double-digit strikeout game for the left-hander, who improved to 2-1 with a 3.66 ERA with the performance. Matusz has also collected a team-high 29 strikeouts on the season.

WCC Team Notes

Gonzaga Bulldogs (8-5 / 0-0 WCC)
- Gonzaga stretched its winning streak to five straight games after sweeping Pacific and winning its first two contests at the Pepsi/Johnny Quick Classic in Fresno.

- Ryan Wiegand led the Zags to a sweep of the Tigers over the weekend, batting .467 (7-for-15) against Pacific, and clubbing a pair of home runs. The junior also collected six extra base hits, and drove in 10 runs in three games.

- CJ McClure picked up his second win of the season out of the bullpen on Tuesday, striking out five batters in just three innings of work in a 10-5 win over Utah.

- Gonzaga finishes the Pepsi/Johnny Quick Classic with games against Portland (3/12), Fresno State (3/13), and New Mexico State (3/14) before returning home for a three-game series with Utah Valley that begins on Monday.

Loyola Marymount Lions (7-7/ 0-0 WCC)
- The Lions claimed the San Diego State Aztec Invitational title with wins over then-No. 12 Oregon State, San Diego State, and then-No. 17 San Diego over the weekend. LMU evened its record at 7-7 with a 12-3 win over UC Riverside on Tuesday.

- A.J. LaMonda pounded out a career-high five hits in LMU's 13-3 win over San Diego on Sunday. The senior was tabbed for Aztec Invitational MVP honors after batting .474 (9-for-19) with nine RBI through four games.

- Andy Preston, a senior transfer from Purdue, went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored against UC Riverside. The infielder is batting .378 (14-for-37) on the year, and is tied for second on the team with eight RBI.

- The Lions hit the road for a four-game series at No. 12 ranked California this weekend.

Pepperdine Waves (10-4 / 0-0 WCC)
- The Waves split a two-game mid-week set with USC before posting a four-game sweep of Columbia over the weekend. The Waves then fell at No. 11 UCLA on Tuesday, 11-3.

- Eric Thames was tabbed for WCC Player of the Week honors after batting .450 (9-for-20) and clubbing four home runs in five games last week. The senior also legged out two triples, and drove in 13 runs to lead the Waves.

- Nathan Newman tossed his first career complete game in Friday's 7-1 win over Columbia, striking out eight batters and surrendering just one earned run. The freshman improved to 2-1 on the season with the win.

- Pepperdine hosts Western Illinois (3/12) before welcoming Oral Roberts to Eddy D. Field Stadium for a three-game series this weekend.

Portland Pilots (11-5 / 0-0 WCC)
- Portland continued one of the best starts in program history, as the Pilots won four straight games at the River City Classic and split their first two contests at the Pepsi/Johnny Quick Classic in Fresno.

- Cory Wiltshire enjoyed an outstanding week, batting .500 (10-for-20) and clubbing a pair of home runs as Portland went 4-1.

- Mark Triolo improved to 3-0 on the season following an eight-inning, seven strikeout performance in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Fresno State. The junior transfer from San Diego State has notched a 2.36 ERA in four starts this season.

- Portland finishes out the Pepsi/Johnny Quick Classic with games against Gonzaga (3/12), New Mexico State (3/13), and Indiana (3/14).

Saint Mary's Gaels (8-4-1 / 0-0 WCC)
- Saint Mary's battled then-No. 25 Stanford to a 7-7 tie before the game was suspended due to darkness in the ninth inning last Tuesday. The Gaels then traveled to No. 3 ranked UCLA for a three-game set over the weekend, where they took Sunday's series finale by a score of 4-2.

- Scott Schneider was credited with the win in Sunday's victory over the Bruins, as the sophomore surrendered just two earned runs in six innings of work. Schneider improved to 3-0 on the season, and lowered his ERA to 1.42.

- Kyle Jensen slugged his team-leading third home run of the season in Saint Mary's 11-10 loss to Nevada on Tuesday. Jensen enters the week batting .421 (16-for-38).

- The Gaels return home to take on Fairleigh Dickinson for a four-game weekend set at The Guisto.

San Diego Toreros (8-7 / 0-0 WCC)
- San Diego posted wins over then-No. 20 Oklahoma State and then-No. 12 Oregon State at the Aztec Invitational over the weekend, and knocked off No. 20 ranked Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, 6-2.

- Brian Matusz was outstanding on the mound in a 7-2 win over Oklahoma State on Friday. The sophomore surrendered just one unearned run in eight innings, and struck out 12 Cowboy batters to fall just one short of his career-high.

- Victor Sanchez went 2-for-5 with a home run to lead the Toreros to Tuesday's win at Cal State Fullerton. The freshman currently leads the team with five round-trippers on the year, and has driven in a team-high 16 runs.

- San Diego travels to face Hawaii-Hilo for a four-game series before taking on Hawaii (3/18) this week.

San Francisco Dons (6-8 / 0-0 WCC)
- San Francisco split a pair of mid-week tilts before taking two-of-three from UNLV on the road over the weekend. The Dons then fell to No. 12 ranked California on Tuesday, 6-2.

- Joey Railey led the Dons at the plate last week, batting .435 (10-for-23) with four RBI and three runs scored in five games. The senior infielder is currently batting .311 (19-for-61) on the season.

- Alex Kalogrides earned his second win of the season in Friday's 13-inning victory over the Rebels. The sophomore struck out a pair of batters in two innings of scoreless relief to improve to 2-0 on the year.

- The Dons welcome Pacific (3/12) to Benedetti Diamond before traveling to Houston for a three-game series this weekend.

Santa Clara Broncos (9-3 / 0-0 WCC)
- Santa Clara outlasted Fresno State in extra innings last Tuesday before splitting four games at the Aztec Invitational over the weekend. The Broncos notched wins over then-No. 17 San Diego and San Diego State before falling to then-No. 20 Oklahoma State, and then-No. 12 Oregon State.

- Jeff Lombard notched saves in both of Santa Clara's wins over the weekend, tossing five innings and striking out four batters against USD and San Diego State.

- Ryan Conan and Jon Karcich joined Lombard on the All-Tournament Team for the Aztec Invitational. Conan batted .474 (9-for-19) on the weekend with five runs scored and three RBI, while Karcich batted a team-best .538 (7-for-13).

- The Broncos travel to Cal Poly (3/12) before opening a four-game set with UC Davis this weekend. SCU will host Saturday's doubleheader against the Aggies.
