WCC Announces Rawlings Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has named its Rawlings Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week for March 17, 2014.

CAMERON NEFF, FR., RHP, SAINT MARY'S
One week after throwing his first collegiate shutout against Penn State, freshman RHP Cameron Neff took his game to an even larger stage and duplicated the feat as he allowed just four hits in shutting out No. 9-ranked Cal State Fullerton on the road. The Salinas, Calif. native struck out three and walked two in the 122-pitch effort, helping Saint Mary's to a 6-0 win over the Titans. Neff has now worked 18 consecutive scoreless innings as the Gaels' Saturday starter and owns a 3-2 record with a 2.79 ERA.

TOMMY CHEEK, SR., IF, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
Tommy Cheek, who batted .600 with six runs scored and eight RBI last week, turned in another solid week, helping the Lions go 3-1. The native of Escondido, Calif. batted .500 (9-for-18) over the course of four games played this week, collecting four runs scored, four RBI and a pair of doubles to the tune of a .500 on-base percentage and a .611 slugging percentage.  He collected multiple hits in all four games, including a sweep of Portland to start WCC play.   

Cheek's biggest game came on Saturday night, where he finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Cheek has now hit safely in five straight games, batting .565 with six runs scored and six RBI over the span. He has also collected a hit in 10 of his last 11 games played, including multiple hits in seven over the span.  In the three games against Portland, Cheek batted .500 (7-for-14) with three runs scored, two doubles and four RBI.
