West Coast Conference play resumes this week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- As the month of March winds down, West Coast Conference play begins later this week for three WCC teams. Meanwhile, conference newcomer BYU will resume WCC play. The Cougars opened their conference schedule by taking two of three at Saint Mary's last month.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • West Coast Conference play begins for three more teams this week, as Portland, San Diego, and Santa Clara all play their first conference games. Conference newcomer BYU resumes WCC play at Portland, after having taken two of three at Saint Mary's last month.

  • San Francisco junior RHP Kyle Zimmer is the Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week. He pitched a complete game shutout at Hawai'i, striking out 12.

  • For the second time this season, San Diego sophomore third baseman Kris Bryant is the Rawlings WCC Player of the Week. Bryant was 10-for-22 at the plate, belting five homers and scoring 11 runs.

  • Gonzaga has played just three home games, but the Zags are 7-0 in neutral site contests.

  • The West Coast Conference is one of three Division I conferences not to have a postseason tournament or playoff series (Big West, Pac 12). The WCC will commence a four-team championship beginning in 2013.
