WCC/Rawlings Player of the Week
Ryan Wheeler, LMU

Ryan Wheeler led the Lions to a perfect 5-0 week, including a sweep of Portland to open conference play. Wheeler batted .545 (12-for-22) through five games, while scoring seven runs, clubbing three doubles, a triple, and driving in six runs on the week. The sophomore produced four multiple-hit games, including a 4-for-5 performance in Tuesday's win over USC, and a 3-for-5 performance with three RBI in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Pilots.

Josh Romanski, San Diego & Thain Simon, Santa Clara

San Diego's Josh Romanski and Santa Clara's Thain Simon share this week's WCC Pitcher of the Week honor. Romanski tossed the first no-hitter by a San Diego pitcher in 12 years, dealing the complete nine innings and facing just one batter over the minimum in a 12-0 win over Harvard. Romanski struck out eight Crimson batters during his outing. Simon factored into three SCU wins over ranked opponents last week, striking out 10 batters in just six innings of work. Simon earned the win over then-No. 11 ranked California, and saved a pair of SCU victories against then-No. 14 San Diego over the weekend.

WCC Enjoys Non-Conference Success
WCC teams have enjoyed success in the non-conference portions of their schedules, as league squads have combined to post a 113-70-1 (.617) mark against teams from other conferences. WCC teams have also fared well against teams from other West Region circuits, notching a 65-54-1 (.546) record against teams from the Big West, Mountain West, Pac-10, and Western Athletic (WAC) conferences.

WCC Ranked No. 6 In Boyd's World RPI
West Coast Conference baseball teams are enjoying tremendous success through the first half of the season, propelling the WCC to a No. 6 listing in the conference RPI ratings, according to boydsworld.com. The WCC trails only the Pac-10, the ACC, the Big 12, the SEC, and the Big West in the RPI rankings.

WCC Team Notes

Gonzaga Bulldogs (16-11 / 1-1 WCC)
- Gonzaga split a weather-shortened series with Pepperdine at home over the weekend, rebounding from Sunday's 10-0 loss to post a 6-3 victory over the Waves on Monday.

- Matt Fields improved to 4-1 on the season after tossing six innings and surrendering just one earned run in Monday's win over Pepperdine. It marked the sixth start of the season for the junior, who leads the team with 37.2 innings pitched on the year.

- Marcus McKimmy and Mark Castellitto each slugged home runs in Monday's win. Castellitto's round-tripper marked his third of the season, and the sophomore put together a 4-for-7 performance in the two-game set against Pepperdine.

- Gonzaga continues conference action on the road this weekend, traveling to San Diego for a three-game series.

Loyola Marymount Lions (16-11/ 3-0 WCC)
- The Lions posted a perfect 5-0 week, sweeping a two-game mid-week series with USC before sweeping a three-game set to open up conference play at Portland over the weekend.

- Andy Beal was credited with a pair of wins last week, as the senior went 6.1 innings to earn the victory at USC on Tuesday, and tossed five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts against Portland on Sunday.

- Ryan Wheeler batted .545 (12-for-22) for the Lions on the week. Wheeler went 3-for-5 in Saturday's 7-5 win at Portland, driving in three runs to increase his team-leading RBI total to 22.

- LMU hosts No. 23 ranked Cal State Fullerton (4/1) before traveling to San Francisco for a three-game series this weekend.

Pepperdine Waves (17-8 / 1-1 WCC)
- The Waves notched a 7-5 win over then-No. 4 ranked Long Beach State before traveling to Spokane over the weekend, and splitting a weather-shortened series with Gonzaga.

- Eric Thames blasted two home runs in Sunday's 10-0 win over Gonzaga, bringing his season home run total to six. Thames enters the week ranked second in the conference in home runs, and tied for the WCC lead with 32 RBI.

- Nathan Newman earned the victory in Sunday's win, tossing 7.1 innings of shutout ball to improve to 4-2 on the year. The junior surrendered just four hits on the afternoon, and struck out four Bulldog batters.

- Pepperdine will meet UC Santa Barbara (4/1 & 4/2) for a two-game mid-week set before traveling to Saint Mary's for a three-game WCC series this weekend.

Portland Pilots (14-14 / 0-3 WCC)
- The Pilots opened their conference slate at home over the weekend, suffering a three-game sweep against Loyola Marymount, before being edged 5-4 in 13 innings at No. 26 Oregon State on Monday.

- Danny Meier slugged his team-leading sixth home run of the season in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Lions. It marked the 17th career home run for the senior, who is just one round-tripper shy of cracking the Portland all-time top-10 list.

- Chase Powell went 5-for-7 in Sunday's doubleheader against LMU, and enters the week batting a team-high .318 (35-for-110) on the year.

- The Pilots continue a six-game road stretch at Washington (4/1) before traveling to Santa Clara for a three-game set this weekend.

Saint Mary's Gaels (14-10-1 / 1-2 WCC)
- Saint Mary's fell in extra innings to UC Davis before dropping two-of-three at home to San Francisco to begin conference play over the weekend.

- Kyle Jensen capped a 3-for-5 performance with his first career gland slam in Saturday's 10-9 win over the Dons. The sophomore enters the week tied for the conference lead with seven home runs so far this season.

- Brian Justice suffered the tough luck loss in Friday's 2-0 defeat. The junior tossed nine innings, surrendering just two earned runs, and was saddled with his first loss of the season. Justice, who has made five starts and six mound appearances on the year, ranks third in the WCC with a 1.95 ERA.

- The Gaels continue a season-high nine-game home stand, hosting San Francisco State (4/1) before welcoming No. 11 ranked Pepperdine to The Guisto for a three-game series.

San Diego Toreros (19-10 / 1-2 WCC)
- San Diego went 2-3 on the week, falling to then-No. 21 Cal State Fullerton and defeating Harvard before dropping two-of-three to Santa Clara in WCC action over the weekend.

- Brian Matusz tossed a complete-game gem in Friday's 1-0 win over the Broncos, striking out eight SCU batters to improve to 5-1 on the year. The junior has fanned a league-high 63 batters so far this season, and moved into a tie for eighth place on the WCC career strikeouts list with 319.

- James Meador went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI in USD's 14-4 win over Harvard. Meador enters the week batting .333 (29-for-87) to rank second on the team.

- San Diego continues a 12-game home stand against USC (4/2) before taking on Gonzaga at home this weekend.

San Francisco Dons (16-11 / 2-1 WCC)
- San Francisco posted a 3-1 mark last week, knocking off UC Davis before taking two-of-three from Saint Mary's to begin conference play. The Dons enter the week having won eight of their last nine games,

- Matt Lujan continued to impress on the mound, as the freshman tossed a complete game and surrendered just three hits in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Gaels. Lujan improved to 3-0 on the year, and enters the week ranked second in the WCC with a 1.88 ERA.

- Ryan Lipkin enjoyed an outstanding week at the plate, as the sophomore went 8-for-16 in USF's four games. Lipkin, who has clubbed a team-high eight doubles this season, currently leads the WCC with a .400 (28-for-70) batting average.

- The Dons battle No. 7 California (4/1) in the third annual Dante Benedetti Classic at AT&T Park before hosting LMU for a three-game WCC series this weekend.

Santa Clara Broncos (15-9 / 2-1 WCC)
- Santa Clara posted a 4-1 record last week, notching a 7-5 win over then-No. 11 California, and taking two-of-three from then-No. 14 San Diego, before defeating Washington State on Monday.

- Thain Simon earned his conference-leading sixth win of the season, tossing 2.0 innings of relief in Tuesday's win over the Golden Bears. The freshman also earned saves in both SCU wins at San Diego, striking out 10 batters in just six innings of work on the week.

- Matt Long slugged the game-winning home run in Tuesday's win over Cal, giving the junior a team-high four round-trippers on the year. The Broncos are currently tied for the WCC lead with 20 home runs as a team.

- The Broncos host Pacific (4/2) before welcoming Portland to Schott Stadium for a three-game weekend set.
