Baseball Moves up in National Polls

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team moved up yet again in the national polls jumping seven spots in the Rosenblatt Report top-25 to No. 18.

The Toreros posted a 2-1 record this past weekend to claim its opening West Coast Conference series against Saint Mary's College. USD pounded out 16 hits in Friday's 13-4 win against the Gaels in which both Justin Snyder and Kevin Hansen went a perfect 2-for-2 with Hansen driving in three runs. Jordan Abruzzo led the offense for the Toreros going 3-for-5 with three RBI. The Toreros then dropped game two, 5-3, before bouncing back on Sunday with a 9-4 win. In Sunday's win USD fell behind 4-0, but then scored nine unanswered runs to come from behind and claim the series win. Daniel Magness was the offensive hero or the Toreros going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one home run. Steve Singleton finished the day going 2-for-5 with two RBI to run his hit streak to 10 games and Abruzzo ran his hit streak to nine games with his 1-for-4 performance.

With the 2-1 week the Toreros remain red hot as they have now won eight of their last 10 games and will look to continue their hot streak on Tuesday as they close out a seven-game home stand against Cal State Northridge in a 2 p.m. non-conference game at Cunningham Stadium.
