SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The University of San Diego sophomore left-hander Josh Romanski was named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Month for March.
Romanski was nearly flawless on the mound during the month of March, posting a 3-0 record in four mound appearances as San Diego went 12-5. The sophomore tallied 22 strikeouts in 30.2 innings pitched, posted the third lowest ERA in the conference (1.17), and limited opposing lineups to a .137 batting average, the second lowest clip in the WCC. The southpaw was brilliant in a 2-0 shutout over UC Irvine on March 6, tossing eight innings and surrendering just two hits with seven strikeouts in the victory. Romanski followed that performance with another gem as he surrendered just three hits in eight innings, while striking out six in USD's 5-1 win over then-No. 12 ranked Cal State Fullerton on March 14. Following a five-hit, seven-inning effort against UNLV on March 24, Romanski dealt 7.2 innings and surrendered just four hits in a no-decision at Gonzaga on March 31.
Romanski and the Toreros will return to action on Thursday as they head to Moraga, Calif. to begin a three-game WCC series with Saint Mary's College.
