West Coast Conference baseball action resumes Thursday

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Four of the top teams in the West Coast Conference standings square off with two important series this weekend. Unbeaten LMU (3-0) plays at BYU (4-2), with two of the games televised on BYUtv. In Spokane, Gonzaga (2-1) host No. 19 San Diego (5-1).


  • Three West Coast Conference teams are playing particularly well as the calendar turns to April. LMU, San Diego, and Gonzaga have all won four of their last five ballgames. The Toreros and Bulldogs will square off for a three-game set beginning Thursday.

  • San Diego ranks third nationally in team batting average, hitting at a .329 clip through games played on April 1.

  • Three West Coast Conference teams rank in the top ten nationally in earned run average, led by Portland's 2.00 mark, which leads the nation. Saint Mary's (5, 2.53) and Gonzaga (10, 2.69) are also in the top 10.

  • San Francisco redshirt sophomore RHP Abe Bobb is the Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week. Bobb threw 7.1 shutout innings, striking out six in a 1-0 victory over previously-unbeaten San Diego.

  • Loyola Marymount junior catcher Colton Plaia is the Rawlings WCC Player of the Week. Plaia went 5-for-10 with two homers, seven RBI, and four runs scored as the Lions swept a WCC series from Saint Mary's.
