WCC ranked fourth nationally in ESPN.com power rankings

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Pepperdine will open its home conference slate this weekend, as the Waves welcome Portland to Malibu. Just south on California Route 1, Loyola Marymount plays host to 2011 WCC champ San Francisco. In Spokane, Gonzaga takes on Santa Clara. Meanwhile, BYU, Saint Mary's, and San Diego all compete in non-conference action.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • The West Coast Conference is ranked fourth in conference RPI, according to this week's ESPN.com Power Rankings. The WCC is tied for fifth with the Big XII Conference, according to boydsworld.com.

  • San Diego ranks seventh nationally with 365 hits through games played on April 8. The Toreros have belted 72 doubles, good for eighth in the country.

  • USD soph. RHP Michael Wagner leads the nation with 14 saves.

  • Portland continues to lead the nation in earned run average (as of April 9), with a team mark of 2.12. Gonzaga is 11th at 2.76, and Saint Mary's sits 14th at 2.80.

  • Pepperdine junior RHP Jon Moscot is the Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week. Moscot threw 8.2 no-hit innings, striking out a career-high 10 in a win at Saint Mary's.

  • BYU senior DH Alex Wolfe is the Rawlings WCC Player of the Week. Wolfe hit .500 (7-for-14) last week, driving in four and scoring four runs as the Cougars went 3-1.
