Gonzaga Remains In First Place As Conference Play Heats Up

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Tuesday will be a busy day for WCC teams as seven schools face non-conference opponents. Pepperdine takes on No 4 ranked Cal State Fullerton, Portland will face No. 7 ranked Oregon, and Santa Clara will go head-to-head against No. 22 ranked Cal Poly. Over the weekend in conference play, Gonzaga travels to Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount heads to San Francisco, Portland will be at Saint Mary's, and San Diego travels to Santa Clara.


RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK:SCOTT FRAZIER, JR., RHP, PEPPERDINEPepperdine junior Scott Frazier is the Rawlings West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week. Frazier got the win Friday pitching seven innings with eight strikeouts against the Toreros allowing two earned runs and held San Diego's offense to a .222 batting average. Frazier improved to 3-4 on the season with the road win at the preseason favorite San Diego.

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:BRADLEY ZIMMER, SO., OF, SAN FRANCISCOSan Francisco sophomore Bradley Zimmerman is the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week. Zimmer went 7-for-12 as the Dons won three games at Santa Clara. Zimmer was 2-for-3 Friday with an RBI and 2-for-5 Saturday with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Zimmer also threw out a runner advancing from first to third on a single to right field. On Sunday, Zimmer hit his second home run of the weekend. He was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs and a stolen base in the game. Zimmer is hitting .331 on the year with seven home runs and nine stolen bases.

If the West Coast Conference baseball championships began today, Gonzaga, Pepperdine, San Francisco and Loyola Marymount would be the qualifying teams selected to compete. The 2013 WCC Baseball Tournament begins May 23 at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, Calif. with the winning team earning the WCC automatic bid to the playoffs.
