WCC Announces Rawlings Pitcher, Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- With the 2011 baseball season in full swing, the West Coast Conference is pleased to announce its WCC Rawlings Player and Pitcher of the Week.

Rawlings Player of the Week
Travis Higgs, San Francisco, SR, Catcher
USF catcher Travis Higgs was behind the plate for all three of the Dons' wins at Portland this weekend and was a late-game substitute in a loss to San Jose State. Higgs hit .429 with a .929 slugging percentage. Thesenior collected six hits in 14 at bats and totaled seven RBIs, two home runs, one double and four runs scored with only three strikeouts. His first home run was a two-run bomb in game one against Portland that jumped started USF to a 19-2 win. His second home run came in the final game of the series against Portland - another two-run shot. USF's pitchers totaled a 1.00 ERA against Portland with Higgs calling the signs.

Rawlings Pitcher of the Week
Cody Martin, Gonzaga, SR, RHP
Martin pitched 3 2/3 hitless innings in three relief appearances. In addition to striking out six, he retired all batters he faced except one - he walked one at Loyola Marymount Sunday. He earned his sixth save of the season in Gonzaga's come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Lions Friday, retiring the side in order with two strikeouts and a ground out on 12 pitches.
