WCC play continues with four conference series this weekend

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- West Coast Conference play resumes on Friday with four WCC series on the weekend docket.


  • Three West Coast Conference teams rank in the top 30 in RPI according to this week's report on NCAA.com: Gonzaga (14), San Diego (23), and Pepperdine (28).

  • LMU freshman RHP Colin Welmon ranks fourth nationally in walks per nine innings (0.64) and sixth in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.75).

  • San Diego ranks 13th nationally in hits (393) as of April 15, and 15th nationally with 80 doubles.

  • Portland continues to lead the nation in earned run average (as of April 9), with a team mark of 2.12. Gonzaga is 11th at 2.76, and Saint Mary's sits 14th at 2.80.

  • San Diego sophomore RHP Michael Wagner is the Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week. Wagner saved all four games in which he pitched, and he continues to lead the nation with 18 saves.

  • Pepperdine junior 2B Joe Sever is the Rawlings WCC Player of the Week. Sever was 11-for-18 (.611) last week, with four runs scored and four RBI.
