April 21, 2014
SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has named its Rawlings Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week for April 21, 2014.
RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
JAKE JENKINS, SO., RHP, PACIFIC
For the second time in WCC play, sophomore Jake Jenkins tossed a complete-game shutout as he led the Tigers to a 1-0 win over Saint Mary's on Friday. Needing just over two hours and 110 pitches, Jenkins put on a pitching clinic as the sophomore scattered seven hits over his nine innings of action to come away with his fourth victory of the season. Jenkins used his fastball and slider combination to keep the Gaels off balance and off the board.
Even when the second-year Tiger gave up a hit to the Gaels the threat proved to be short-lived as Pacific turned three double plays in the game, the last of which came in the top of the ninth when Jenkins started the game-ending 1-6-3 double play. In all, Jenkins struck out eight and walked just one as he did not allow a runner to get past second in the contest.
