LUBBOCK, Texas - The first National Pitcher of the Year Award watch list was released this weekend and Pepperdine has three hurlers named to the list. The Waves are the only team in the country with three players on the list and are the only WCC school with pitchers nominated.
Starters Corey Miller and Aaron Brown, and closer Eric Karch were all named to the list for the Waves. The Pitcher of the Year Award, sponsored by Diamond, will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's annual Night of Champions on June 28 in Lubbock, Texas.
"Three players on the watch list from the same school is pretty remarkable," said award co-chair Chris Snead in the College Baseball Hall of Fame release. "It definitely says something about the caliber of that staff. It will be interesting to see how the numbers shape up as we progress through the regular season and the postseason."
All three Pepperdine players are no strangers to award watch lists as Brown and Miller were recently named to the Golden Spikes Award mid-season watch list, and Karch was named to the Stopper of the Year watch list.
Brown (Chatsworth, Calif./Chatsworth HS) currently boasts a WCC-best 8-1 record and conference leading 75 strikeouts, to go along with a 2.39 ERA and .215 opponent batting average. His eight wins are seventh in the NCAA and 75 K's are 14th. Brown has tossed 71.2 innings, giving up just 54 hits and 19 earned runs on the year.
