WCC PodCentral: Inside the WCC sat down with this week's WCC/Rawlings Pitcher and Player of the Week, Matt Hiserman from the University of San Francisco, Ryan Wiegand from Gonzaga University and Sean Nicol from the University of San Diego.
Hiserman, a sophomore right-hander, turned in an outstanding performance, tossing his first career complete game against Pepperdine on Sunday. In 9.0 innings, Hiserman allowed just four hits en route to a 4-2 Dons win, while striking out a career-high 12 Waves in the contest. Hiserman talk about his performance against the Waves, transferring from rival Santa Clara, and being in the hunt for the WCC regular season title.
Wiegand, a senior first baseman, finished the week 10-for-17 (.588) with six runs scored, 10 RBI, two doubles, one grand slam, a .882 slugging percentage and a .682 on-base percentage. San Diego, CA native talked about his decision to play baseball at Gonzaga, approaching the all-time Gonzaga hits record, and playing for a WCC championship late in the season.
Nicol, a senior shortstop, enjoyed a monster week, going 8-for-18 (.444) with five doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, and 10 runs scored. The Scottsdale, AZ native talked about earning the Player of the Week honor, transferring from Portland, and how the Toreros have overcome significant injuries to remain atop the conference standings.
