SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- There are two weeks remaining in the regular season, and three of the four spots in the WCC tournament are still up for grabs. 2013 WCC regular season champion Gonzaga has already clinched the top seed. A busy week of non-conference match-ups for WCC teams with eight games. West Coast Conference action includes BYU hosting San Francisco, Saint Mary's at Pepperdine, and Portland traveling to San Diego. Santa Clara will travel to Cincinnati for a three-game weekend series while Gonzaga will host Appalachian State for three games over the weekend.
WCC QUICK HITS
Gonzaga University clinched the West Coast Conference regular season title on Saturday with a 6-1 win against Santa Clara University. The victory gives Gonzaga the No. 1 seed at the WCC Championship Tournament held at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, Calif., May 23-25. It is the Bulldogs' first title since 2009.
RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE MONTH:TYLER OLSEN, SR., LHP, GONZAGAGonzaga senior pitcher Tyler Olson is the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Month for April. Olson helped the Bulldogs with a 4-0 record in five appearances. The lefty pitched three complete games, two on the road and one of which included a shutout while on the road.
RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE MONTH:ZACHARY TURNER, JR., C, SAN FRANCISCOSan Francisco junior catcher Zachary Turner is the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Month for April. Turner helped the Dons to a 13-5 record last month, hitting .378 (28-for-74) while driving in 28 runs and scoring 15.
RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK:ADAM CIMBER, SR., RHP, SAN FRANCISCOSan Francisco senior Adam Cimber is the Rawlings West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week. The San Francisco reliever earned two wins and a save as the Dons went 5-0, winning their conference series against Pepperdine.
RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:BOB CRUIKSHANK, SO., INF, SAN FRANCISCO Sophomore Bob Cruikshank is the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week after leading the Dons to a 5-0 record. Cruikshank went 6-for-17 with three runs, seven RBI, and a two-run home run against Pepperdine.
San Diego junior 3B Kris Bryant leads the nation with 25 home runs. His 48 career dingers rank second all-time in WCC history (T. Bozied, USF 2001).
