SPOKANE, Wash. - All three Gonzaga University baseball games against Pepperdine University this weekend will be aired live on radio on 790 THE FAN in the greater Spokane area and via the internet.
Tom Hudson will call the three-game West Coast Conference series from Malibu, Calif., beginning with Friday's 3 p.m. series opener and continuing with Saturday and Sunday games at 1 p.m. The broadcasts will begin 15 minutes prior to the scheduled first pitch.
The series between the Zags and Waves will be a pivotal one as Gonzaga has a game-and-a-half lead on Pepperdine for second place in the conference standings. Should the Bulldogs take at least two games from the Waves this weekend they would secure at least a second-place finish and clinch a spot in the West Coast Conference Championship Series against the University of San Diego on May 25-27. If Gonzaga sweeps Pepperdine and USD drops its three-game series at Santa Clara University this weekend, the Bulldogs would tie the Toreros for first place and win the tiebreaker for the right to host the WCC Championship Series. Otherwise, USD will host either the Bulldogs or the Waves.
"We are thrilled to be a part of Gonzaga's baseball program and to increase the amount of coverage to include this crucial series," said Dave Pier, chief marketing officer of Brett Sports and Entertainment that owns the broadcast rights to Bulldog baseball, as well as men's and women's basketball. "We also tip our hats to Citadel Communications and 790 THE FAN for being able to switch their programming on such late notice to broadcast these important games."
"Gonzaga has a great relationship with Brett Sports and Entertainment, and Citadel Communications," added Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth. "Our baseball team has put together a strong season and we are excited that Brett Sports and Citadel Communications have recognized the importance of this series and want to be able to bring it to Bulldog fans in Spokane and over the internet."
Gonzaga travels to Malibu with a 30-21 overall record, including 13-5 in the WCC. Pepperdine is currently ranked as high as No. 17 in the national polls, boasting a 31-17 record, 10-5 in WCC play.
