One Spot Remains in WCC Baseball Tournament

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference regular season comes to an end this weekend and three teams have punched their ticket to the Conference Tournament at Banner Island Ballpark on May 23-25. Gonzaga clinched the regular season championship and was the first team in, followed by San Francisco and San Diego. One spot remains as teams battle it out for a chance to continue playing. In conference action this week, Saint Mary's travels to BYU, Portland will host Pepperdine, and Santa Clara will face Loyola Marymount.

WCC QUICK HITS

The WCC features four teams in the top 100 RPI as of May 14: San Diego (50), BYU (52), San Francisco (55), and Gonzaga (100).

San Diego Jr. 3B Kris Bryant leads the nation in home runs with 28. With 51 career home runs, Bryant sits second all time in HR in WCC history (Taggert Bozied, USF '01, 60).

Saint Mary's senior outfielder Brenden Kalfus has established a new West Coast Conference record by hitting safely in 33 straight games (and counting). Kalfus was named Rawlings WCC Player of the Week on Monday.

The left-hander helped the Toreros on Friday as he went 8.0 innings striking out four.

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
BRENDEN KALFUS, SR., OF, SAINT MARY'S
He helped the Gaels to a 3-1 batting 6-for-15 with four doubles and six RBI.

The West Coast Conference has earned multiple NCAA Tournament bids five times since 2003.

The 2013 West Coast Conference championship game will take place on Saturday, May 25 at 7 p.m. PDT. The game will be televised live on ESPNU and WatchESPN.
