San Bruno, Calif. - Senior right hander James Johnson, who earned the victory in Pepperdine's title-clinching win over Saint Mary's on Sunday, was named the West Coast Conference's (WCC) Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Johnson continued his outstanding pitching of late when he tossed his first career complete-game against the Gaels, helping the Waves clinch a share of the WCC's regular-season title with San Francisco.
In nine innings of work, Johnson allowed five hits, two runs, walked three and struck out three while limiting the Gaels to a .156 average. It marked his sixth consecutive win.
In his last three outings, Johnson has worked into the ninth inning three times and has a 3-0 record and 2.10 ERA. He has struck out 13 in 25.2 innings and limited opposing batters to a .178 average.
It marks the first time in Johnson's career that has earned the WCC's weekly honor.
