WCC Announces Rawlings Player, Pitcher of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference announced its Rawlings Pitcher and Player of the Week for May 16, 2011.

Aaron Griffin, Loyola Marymount, SO, RHP
Sophomore Aaron Griffin made two starts last week, tossing six and a third innings and leaving with a 2-1 lead on Monday versus Cal State Bakersfield. Griffin, a native of El Cajon, Calif. allowed an unearned run on three hits and two walks while striking out a career-high eight batters. On Sunday at Saint Mary's, Griffin tossed his second career complete game, and his first career complete-game shutout, to improve to 6-3. The right-hander threw 116 pitches, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out six hitters. He retired 12 straight hitters from the third out in the second through the second out in the sixth. Overall on the week, Griffin posted a 0.00 ERA and a 1-0 record with a shutout and a complete game over 15.1 innings of work. He allowed just nine hits and one unearned run over the two starts, allowing three walks and striking out 14.

Cameron Edman, Gonzaga, RS SR, C
Edman went 10-for-18 (.556) with five doubles, three home runs and 10 driven in. He and teammate Tyler Chism are on a team-high 13-game hitting streak entering Monday. Last Monday's 12-5 win at Brigham Young was a career day for Edman, who hit three home runs, a single and a double with acareer-high six RBIs. On Saturday at Portland, Edman's day started with a two-run double and two at bats later, he hit an RBI double to help the Bulldogs beat the Pilots 7-5.
