Pepperdine, LMU square off this weekend with eye on first place

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Three West Coast Conference series take place this weekend, including the renewal of the PCH Cup rivalry as Pepperdine visits Loyola Marymount. Both the Waves and Lions are in pursuit of first-place San Diego, sitting just a half game and 1.5 games out of first, respectively. WCC weekend action gets underway Thursday evening, when Santa Clara visits BYU (6 p.m. MDT, BYUtv).


  • Pepperdine junior second baseman Joe Sever is the Rawlings WCC Player of the Week. Sever hit .500 (8-for-16) over four games last week, driving in six and scoring four runs.

  • Loyola Marymount freshman hurler Colin Welmon was named the Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week on May 14. Welmon struck out six and allowed just one ninth inning run in a 13-1 complete game victory at No. 18 San Diego.

  • Gonzaga's Royce Bolinger ranks 12th nationally as of May 14 with 81 hits.

  • Saint Mary's RHP Martin Agosta is seventh in the nation with nine wins.
