SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has announced the bracket and game times for the 2013 WCC Baseballl Championship, to be played May 23-25 at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, Calif. The four-team championship marks the first time the conference has ever fielded a four-team, neutral site event, and it's the WCC's first baseball postseason championship since 2009.
For the first time since 2009, the Gonzaga University Bulldogs captured the West Coast Conference regular season title. The Bulldogs finished a WCC-best 18-6 in conference play, and will be the top seed in this week's championship. Gonzaga will be joined in this year's field by the University of San Diego Toreros, the Brigham Young University Cougars, and the University of San Francisco Dons - all of whom finished 15-9 in West Coast Conference play. Conference bylaws were utilized to break the tie for seeding purposes, giving San Diego the 2-seed, BYU the three, and San Francisco the four.
The tournament features a modified NCAA Regionals double-elimination format, with no "if necessary" championship game.
The first pitch of the 2013 WCC Baseball Championship is on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. PDT, when top-seed Gonzaga faces San Francisco. That game will be followed by San Diego vs. BYU at approximately 7 p.m. PDT. Friday's action gets underway with the first of three games beginning at Noon PDT. The tournament's first five games will all be streamed live and available free of charge on the WCC Digital Network, powered by Campus Insiders.
Saturday's championship game will be played at 7:00 p.m. PDT, and will be televised live on ESPNU.
The winner of the 2013 West Coast Conference Baseball Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
